Hi,
I came across your post, and I thought I would give some insight. Some of your posts were about customer service-and I spent 3 of the most horrible years of my life toiling for SBC in the consumer markets department before leaving in December 2004. Let me just apologize to some of you who obviously got screwed. But I can say that it is not from the lack of trying of most of the SBC customer department. Fault must be given to management, who care about nothing but the bottom line. I can't tell you how many times I have faught with them to help a customer, only to be threatened with losing my job. No matter who the caller and what his need (problem with bill, phone outage, etc)you are only good for DSL. In fact, we had a goal of every call of 8.25 minutes. That's why if you called and it sounded like the rep wasn't listening to you odds are there was a manager who literally standing over them. Each manager has a walkie talkie linked to the central office which notified them immediately when someone was a DSL opportunity. They then rush to your cubicle, and demand that you hurry through the "need" (as they call it) to make an offer. And the offer, if you notice, is always the same. Dsl, Cingular, Dish. I can't tell you how horrible some reps felt when they pushed these products onto unsuspecting callers. And if you try to buck the system and honestly help, you were pulled into a meeting to "seek to understand" your motives. I have had managers encourage me to lie, sell unethically and worse. I refused, and miraculously I avoided punishment. In case you are wondering why I stayed-the job market was horrible, and I had to eventually move from Indianapolis where my call center was to find a job. Now that I don't work for them, I'm switching out to a VOIP service so I don't have to be under MA Bell (because let's face it-with the purchase of AT&T is that really far behind) Take my advice and run, don't walk away from SBC. Especially if you live in the midwest. This is because they are firing people left and right now in the department. I still have friends who work there, and I got a disturbing email that said that they have removed so many reps that they are horribly understaffed. SO your customer service wait time is going to get worse.

Heres a real good reason to STOP using Yahoo all together, hackers are locking accounts and using SBC accounts to do this, many ip's have hit my firewall server coming up bellsouth, SBC - the attacks began in late April of this year and have increased to over 23 IDs I created all being swiped and locked out.
Yahoos biggest excuse is they have no control over it, The Federal could care less and FCC is a joke.
So you know why use a service which advertises policies and rules when they dont stand behind em, because in essence, your info is being scoped and you can fall victim to Identidy Theft, and Yahoo is protected the the fools that voted the same people to come into office and protect the constitution.
Why does america keep believing these lies.
People need to take a notice here.. your being played and they are loving every minute of it.

Hate SBC

I have been waiting for over 3.5 weeks for service. My second line used for DSL, fax, Dish and God forbid, emergencies has not and does not have a dial tone. It took one week to get an appointment after numerous calls from SBC telling me to call SBC DSL service...hmmm, do they not want to service this line because I happen to pay insurance on it so they can't over-charge me!! A repairman comes out, I don't get a call but a card is left that the phone has been repaird. I check and still no dial tone. As instructed, I leave a half of dozen calls on the techs VM. One return call asking if I had a dial tone. I call back for the 7th time and I left another VM saying NO, I do not have a dial tone. That was the last I heard from him. Well, I get busy with work again, of course its difficult to work out of my house in the AM because I don't have DSL nor do I have a second line. To add to the misery, DISH wants to charge me 4.99 a mo. because my line isn't connected. I decide to send an email. Customer rep calls back in minutes, very kind but states she has no record of my calls for service. I said I set an appointment and the man came out and said it was fixed but it was not so I continue to call him as instructed on your little door knocker card. She said oh...we don't record calls to the techs on our system. I then said ok, SBC DSL has called me everyday asking if my line was up and I said no. They too made a call. She again said, oh..I would not have their call recorded either on your repair ticket number. I said OK...then lets try recording something on my ticket. She said she would have someone call me next week and ensure they give me an hour notice so I can get from downtown to my house.I get a confirmation from her via email for 6 PM Friday, May 6th, Great, another week has gone by but I don't have to leave work for the normal "stand by for 8 hr appt". I get a call on my cell at 4 PM, service man asked where I was....I said I was expecting you at 6PM but I can be there by 5PM. He said he can't work appointment that way and he had to leave. I decided I could not take the stress of talking to them as soon as I got home. I sent an email after dinner. I get a message on my home phone telling me that they can't give me a two hour window for an appt. (WHO THE HELL ASKED FOR ONE!) Then I get an email telling me they could not reach me. MAYBE THEY COULD REACH ME IF THEY TRIED GETTING A HOLD OF ME ON THE NUMBER SUBMITTED AS REQUESTED! Why do we tolerate this type of service. I was forced to use SBC because I moved to this side of town. I took out insureance on my "EMERGENCY & WORK LINE"...the one with no dial tone and to date, I have calculated approximately $1,650 of my time spent on this project. This does not include the phone bill for the extra line or the insurance cost for the "NO DIAL TONE LINE" or the Dish penalty. They are taking advantage of us like the airlines. They don't care because we don't have anywhere else to go! I work in the service industry, when my staff or I make an error, the customer, by contract, has the right to deduct a fee from their payment. We should be able to deduct fees without have to be for a partial deduction. We're idiots like them. When they give us partial relief, we act as though they did us a favor! Please, they must stop treating us like this. They need to be exploited and be held accountable for their actions. Are these postings going to go anywhere? Am I wasting my time? What's next?

I really hate SBC, I disconnected my phone after having every bill ever generated from that corrupt company insainly wrong! I told them that if they were the last phone company on earth I would go without a phone! My bill was suppose to be 29.31 a month, was it ever? NO! I was always between 60 and 90.00! With NO long distance. They would add call forwarding, I don't have anywhere to forward calls to! What the hell, I would spend countless hours with them disputing the charges, they accually told me, well you have had this call forwarding all month and even though you didn't use it, we still have to bill you for the month you had it! How am I suppose to know what these idiots are doing until I get a bill! So I deducted the charges that were bogus and paid what I owed. Then swithed over to a new service provider. Now I get on average 10 bill collecting calls from SBC a day wanting to know when I am going to pay the rest of those charges, my answer is always consistant with, When hell freezes over quit calling!! I hate SBC!!!!!!!!!!1

This has been going on for over a year. I contact SBC because I felt someone was listening in on my phone calls. After talking to repair they claim it was a problem on their end. They were suppose to have fixed it. However, they sent a repair man out to my house to test the lines. Since then my Caller I.D. or my Message Alert Indicator Light has not worked properly. Every time I call them - I get the run-around that everything is fine or have you tried plugging your phone in at someone elses house to test your Caller I.D. display on the phone. Each time I call they try to make it appear that it is a problem with my phone. The problem with this is none of my Caller I.D.'s in the house tied to this phone number is working. So, I know it is not my phone. I don't know where they got these Yahoos from that they call employees, but apparently this problem is all over the world where they have customer accounts.

Same store as one above: signed up with SBC/Yahoo DSL, moved, upon the move they failed to turn the service on, I called them to cancel, the person whom I called instead of transferring me to his manager transferred me to a phone sex line. I called again and the manager told me my contract is cancelled, balance zero. Then I get a "FINAL" bill for about $150. I negotiated it down to $40 and paid it. The person I spoke to also lied that my balance is zero. Then I get "Revised Final bill" for $200 which now includes the early termination fee.

SBC Yahoo makes good money on those early termination fee. Take a look at their SEC filing:

We were "almost" rid of SBC here in Indiana but we were sold out by local govenment and they decided to put SBC on "probation"...give them time to fix all their problems and give Indiana a decent service for their money....... The service is worse and most of the time when you try to get someone from customer support they can barely speak english! Their favorite lines are "I'M SORRY"
and "WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS"...of course they do.......if I did the job they do, I'd be fired the same day!
I would just like to know when Indiana is going to be allowed to CHOOSE a phone company instead of having no choice in the matter at all?? Maybe we need new ploticians in office that don't sell out so cheap!

here is another story about thatfucking sbc i got my phone bill and i payed it with a check my fiances name is on the checks. well her mother has the same last name and she lives in the apartment upstairs. the bill was like 150 dollars because of connection fees and everything.like 2 days after i pay the bill i go to use the phone it was shut off so i get on my cell and call them they told me i didnt pay the bill. so after me and my fiance get done fighting over me lieing about the phone bill i go to the bank sure as shit i payed it only one problem its not my account number on the check its her moms. so i call them and they tell me i have to get her moms permission toget my money(my fucking money)transferred to my account). i didnt do it cause its the principal of the hoel thong cause even if you call them to pay your account with someone elses checking account they wont do it. i asked them whos bill am i paying next month and now its on my credit report if they want money they can come over for dinner and try to pull it out of my ass. i think everyone on this site should pull togethor 4 a class action suit fuck u sbsyou can buy all the phone companies i will send smoke signals to family and friends before i use your shity service.

About two months ago SBC had cancelled my internet connection saying that i "have not payed in months" but, that was not correct. Every month for about a WHOLE YEAR i've been paying more than $200 on phone and internet combined. Now that SBC is gone i couldnt uninstall any of the antivirus software that it provided for me. What makes matters worse is that i cant install a new antivirus! So my computer is vurneable to any trojan and so on, until i find a way to get rid of the Anit-Virus - SBC Yahoo! software its going to be stuck like rhis! HOW THE FUCK AM I GONNA TAKE THIS SHIT OFF IF SBC SAYS THAT THE CONTRACT EXPIRED AND I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER IN ORDER TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE. ia want it off not updated

i lived in Akron, Oh when sbc rep called me and offered their DSL service. i had nice cable internet; could cancell it anytime i wanted but i accepted SBC offer because i was stupid. i believed what they talled me. i new i was gonna move, so i refused initially. i told their rep i was going to move. he promised me and his "supervisor" witnessed to it that i would not get charged for early cancellation if the place i was going to move did not provide sbc dsl. after 7 month service with sbs i called them and cancelled the account did not even think what i would go through.
i moved to ND. there's no fucking sbc here(i'm so glad that there's not). i got $200 dollars cancelation fee in september 2004. guess what, the metter is still unsettled and i'm still fighting.
God damn sbc.

Fuck SBC ... They sent me a modem I did not need then charged me $100 for the modem. I sent it back, but they have no record of receiving it, so I still owe them $100.

All of this aside though, fuck SBC still. They charge too much for shitty service (continual problems with my DSL line) and their customer service is terrible. I signed up for DSL service with a one year contract. There was a possibility I would have to move out of the SBC service region before the contract was up so I made sure to ask about the early termination fee. I was told that if I moved to an area not served by SBC then the termination fee would be waived. As you can guess I just got the $200 early termination fee bill. They were quick enough to apply my $30 credit to this (and this credit only exists because I complained that they continued to bill me past the termination date). Since I'm posting here, it's evident that the phone call to billing did not result in a removal of the termination fee. The story is that if I move to an area not served by SBC DSL, but still served by SBC, then the termination fee is dropped. You know that this was not made clear (or understood by) the customer service rep who took my order.

All I got from the billing department supervisor was a PO Box for complaints.

Since June of 2006 I have been struggling with SBC. First the phone and getting it connected when we moved. We couldn't take both of our phone numbers from our old service. Then we kept getting the old numbers' calls, because they didn't have a calol forwarding. Then we didn't get our calls because they forwarded them to the old consumers' new number.
THen my life went into hell when I decided to change our modem internet to DSL. We have 3 computers and two crashed from the CSL cd. One I still cannot get running, tho I've clean installed twice. Their Tech support would tell me what to buy from their DSL store and when I rec'd the parts and recalled tech support because it wouldn't work I was told I had the wrong parts and would need to return and order for another part. Since the one computer is still not working I attempted to return that part and the other parts. The store cust svc gave me return numbers and addressed. and lo and behold even though they have verified that they have gotten the parts back - I am unable to get credit for the returns. I even get different answers each time I call 2 to 3 times a month, as they quarantee that it will be on my next statement.. HAH! Seven on your side told me to take them to small claims court since this has been going on since July 2005.Come June I'm out!!!!! THis has been one of the biggest mistakes in my life.

Just got off the phone with At&t (SBC). I'm moving about 10 miles south of my current residence. 10 freaking miles and this is the best they can do for me:

My overall monthly cost will go up 22 dollars for the same package??? WHY?

My phone will be turned on at my new house in 7-14 days??? WHY??

My DSL can be transfered at no additional cost (YEAH!), but it will take at least 5 weeks!. WTF!!

If I already hand not had so many trouble with SBC & ATT I would think this is a unique scenario. Three times in 3 years they have changed my services (phone once, DSL twice) and upped my monthly expense. This isn't a home mortgage, its freaking phone service and internet access. I just don't get it. In my new house I will try everything possible to avoid AT&T (SBC).

Like so many others, I rue the day I allowed an SBC representative (paid liar!) totalk me into switching to sbcyahoo. They are the most wrothless, unresonsive, lying, sob's (not sbc's) I have ever dealt with. I think I am just going to quit paying the sonsbiches and see if they have the guts to get into a courtroom. Tech supporter after tech supporter, they're all about as worthless as tehsale rep was. Too bad they can't spoend some of teh millions they gouge and steal from people in giving a decent service to the saps they've got under contract!
